The Great Race

29Oct09

My brother, James sent me the link to this clip today. It absolutely made my day. It’s the pie fight from the film The Great Race (1965). This was one of our most watched films when we were little. I really want to watch it now. Professor Fate…the Great Leslie…Max. Professor Fate was a maniac and good fun. Leslie was the dish.  Max the dumb sidekick. Am I the only person of my vintage/generation whom was brought up on films like this and Genevieve, The King and I and Annie? I remember I went through a period where Annie was the only film which I’d want to watch. Maybe it’s my parents baby boomer Anglo-centric tastes.  Regardless, I leave you with the great pie fight…

more brandy!!

SO, um…hey there. Remember me?

So university has been a wee bit intense since a last updated a month ago.

A lot has been happening and I’ve been continually on the go. So what’s been going on? Well I turned 21 on the 1st October, have a rad party with a select group of lovely people and revealed my new tattoo to my parents. (Yes, I do realise I haven’t posted a proper photo yet, this displays how busy I am!) I also went to High Tea at Sir Stamford with my Mum, Dad and elder Brother and saw the Opera Australia production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado. It was a lot of fun. So my birthday was a pretty extravagant, indulgent weekend. I felt pretty spoilt. Yet that feeling didn’t lasted long with all the uni work I’ve buried under, and am just starting to claw my way out of. This week is the last week of teaching, and on friday I’m valedicting from college, having lived here for three years.

The COFA Annual is on in about one months time, and I’m actually starting to feel excited about it. Mainly because my work is finally comming together, I just have to make a decision about mounting. Just so you know, the opening is Tuesday the 24th November from 6-9pm. Come! Free food, gold coin donation drinks. Oh yes, and support a bunch of talented emerging artists. It was a lot of fun last year. Have I persuaded you yet? I will be posting some of my works a bit later on.

Taking a break for work, here’s some tasty Iggy Pop and The Stooges.

Plus here’s a pretty cool fan video. Lots of guns.

Every year my (Scottish) Aunty who lives in London (she get a bit uppity if people call her English), sends my Mum a Charles Rennie McIntosh calendar with the drawings and objects by the firgure identified with the Glasgow School of Arts. I suppose her love of his designs has rubbed off on me. With my latest Art Nouveau tattoo my appreciation of his designs has increased somewhat. In 1999 when I was last in Glasgow with my family we went to the Willow Tea Rooms. McIntosh designed the whole place. I’m dying to go back…one day.

The roses make me melt a little inside.
